Landslide Hazard and Risk Assessment in India: 2-day symposium related to 4 PhD defences

Draft programme for the PhD defences and related symposium at ITC, University of Twente, the Netherlands, 4 and 5 July 2011.

Since 2006 ITC has a research collaboration with the Geological Survey of India (GSI) and the National Remote Sensing Agency (NRSC) on the development of methods for landslide hazard and risk assessment in India. Under this agreement 4 Indian PhD researchers have now completed their PhD: Saibal Ghosh and Pankaj Jaiswal (GSI), Tapas Martha (NRSC) and Iswar Das (IIRS). Their defences will take place on 4 and 5 July. Around their public defences, ITC organizes a short symposium under the UNU-ITC School for Disaster Geo-information Management, in relation with the EU FP7 Safeland project, and the EU FP7 Marie Curie ITN network “CHANGES”. The Safeland project is a large EU FP7 landslide project, which started in May 2009 under the leadership of NGI (Norway), and comprises of 25 partners. It is aimed at developing generic quantitative risk assessment and management tools and strategies for landslides in Europe.
The admission to the symposium is free.
